"A butterfly lights beside us like a sunbeam. And for a brief moment its glory and beauty belong to our world. But then it flies on again, and though we wish it could have stayed we feel so lucky to have seen it..."
In December 2009 Chrise Briggs Murrell was diagnosed with stage 4 adenocarcinoma of the lung.
At the time of her diagnosis she had no symptoms of lung cancer. In June 2010 she passed away from this deadly disease.
Chrise was a graduate of the FTHS Class of 1997. She went on to Rutgers College as a Bloustein Scholar, graduating in May 2001. In May 2005 she earned a Masters Degree in Marketing from the Newhouse School at Syracuse University. Shortly thereafter she moved to Katy,Texas where she settled down with her husband Andy and son Drew.
Thanks to the support of family, friends, Gamma Phi Beta sorority sisters, the Freehold and Rutgers Communities, Chrise’s Dare to Dream Annual 5K Run-Walk was established in November 2010. As a result of this effort thousands of dollars have been raised for cancer research as well as the Chrise's Dare to Dream Scholarship Fund.
